The Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025

for the repair and conservation of protected structures has been announced for the coming year. This announcement is approximately four months earlier than the traditional timeframe and, along with an increase in the value for individual grants that be awarded from €15,000 to €50,000, is one of several changes that have been made to the scheme for 2025 to try to make it more efficient both for applicants and those administering the scheme. All changes are highlighted in the BHIS 2025 Circular.

The closing date for submission of application to Conservation Office, Planning Department, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny is 4pm 27th September 2024.

The Historic Structure Fund 2025

For 2025, The Historic Structures Fund will offer grants from €50,000 up to €200,000 only, and focus on larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures, where:

  1. A clear community or public benefit has been demonstrated, or
  2. A clear residential benefit has been demonstrated (such projects must be advanced through the planning process as necessary)

All applications must adhere to the criteria in the Circular documents, and shall be submitted in hardcopy to Architectural Conservation Officer, Planning Department, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny no later than 17th January 2025. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Historic Thatched Buildings 2025

A ring-fenced thatching grant has been launched to assist owners of thatch buildings with repairs. A total of €23,916.50 is available for this fund, while funding may be up to a maximum of 80% the cost of the project.
